The principals of Andco Investment Services have earned each of these labels over 25 years in the exciting, sometimes volatile, and potentially rewarding commodity futures market.

Rob Anderson, president of Andco Investment Services learned the commodity business first hand, as a turkey grower in West Central Minnesota. As a small business owner, Rob discovered that establishing the price of grain in advance was critical to protecting his profit margin and ultimately his business.

Somewhere along the way, spending the day trading commodities became more fun than determining the fate of 100,000 Thanksgiving dinners, so he moved to the other side of the desk and he’s never looked back.

“My philosophy is that if you are going to trade commodities, you should enjoy the process. Most people who get involved in the commodity markets are there first and foremost to make money, but also because they love the challenge and the excitement.”

Andco Investment Services provides professional fundamental and technical research for its clients, then discusses trading goals and strategies to arrive at a position that suits each individual client’s wealth objectives and risk tolerance.

Research is only one aspect of a relationship with Andco Investment Services. “There are many kinds of sophisticated and helpful research and analysis available to us today,” says Rob. “But knowing how to interpret the research is the skill the broker brings to his client.

“I remember a time early in my career when I pointed out the merits of some trade from a technical standpoint to a savvy and much more experienced broker in my firm. His response has stayed with me to this day: Just remember that every ship at the bottom of the sea has a set of charts on it.

The brokers of Andco Investment Services are acutely aware that the world has become an international market, where events happening around the world have a direct impact on the prices we pay at the grocery store, the gas pump, and for all manner of goods and services.

The commodity futures market is going to reflect the impact of world events first, even before consumers are aware of them. It may be a drought in some country, it may be a change in government somewhere, it could be a hurricane that’s affecting the supply of sugar. These are things that directly effect commodity prices, and in so doing, they offer opportunity for the commodity trader.
